Calangute Beach, Goa, India
Calangute Beach is patrolled by the tourist police who hassle the trinket touts that hassle you.
Calangute Beach is a clean stretch of sand with a backdrop of beach shacks like 'Melonie's' (below). The shacks are open from early morning through to about eleven in the evening, selling a wide variety of food and drink under cover plus supplying a dozen or so sunbeds under palm-frond parasols with a running bar and snack service.
Calangute Beach is patrolled by the tourist police who hassle the trinket touts that hassle you. The touts can be virtually any age from 9 to 90. The beach shack owners and staff will keep certain touts away (but not family or friends).
Fishing boats are beached on Calangute Beach above the high-water line after an early morning on the blue Arabian Sea.
Fishermen repair their nets and relax into the late morning before heading off home.
We saw Europeans fishing off Calangute Beach, beach-casting for catfish like fish that put up a bit of a fight.
