Calangute Beach, Goa, India

Calangute Beach is a clean stretch of sand with a backdrop of beach shacks like 'Melonie's' (below). The shacks are open from early morning through to about eleven in the evening, selling a wide variety of food and drink under cover plus supplying a dozen or so sunbeds under palm-frond parasols with a running bar and snack service.

Calangute Beach is patrolled by the tourist police who hassle the trinket touts that hastle you. The touts can be virtually any age from 9 to 90. The beach shack owners and staff will keep certain touts away (but not family or friends).

Fishing boats are beached on Calangute Beach above the high-water line after an early morning on the blue Arabian Sea.

Fishermen repair their nets and relax into the late morning before heading off home.
