Calangute, Goa, India - Kalangut

Calangute, Goa, is just north of Candolim about 20km from the capital Panaji.

The town of Calangute is about a kilometre inland on the crossroads of the main coast road between Calangute and Baga and the main north-to-south costal highway from Aguada Fort in the south to Agarvado in the north.

The town of Calangute, Goa, is built around a picturesque Portuguese style church dedicated to St. Alex and hosts a night market with local specialty street food.

Calangute Beach is a wide, clean, sandy stretch which has a tendency to change shape depending on the tides. Care should be taken swimming out of your depth as there are strong undercurrents at times and the oceanic shelf is close in here.

Towards the north end of Calangute Beach there are usually water sports craft available to hire. this is also a good spot for beach casting or surf fishing for 'catfish' (mind the barb on the dorsal fin!')

The top edge of Calangute beach is populated with beach shacks - an alternative place to dine of an evening (licensed) from November to April. Locally caught seafood specialties are highly recommended - washed down with a large 'Kingfisher' lager of course. We found 'Melanie's Shack' to be friendly and good value.
