Colonia Santa Maria Hotel, Goa, India

We had booked a two week half board holiday in India at the Colonia Santa Maria Hotel, Goa with Travelpack, "the tailor-made holiday specialists". The description in Travelpack's - April 2006 brochure was as follows.

*** (three stars)

Colonia Santa Maria

Location: Baga Beach. Average Transfer Time: 75 minutes.

Colonia Santa Maria ia a village style resort, which is located on the famous Baga Beach, on a popular stretch known for beach shacks and sunbathing. It only 200 meters away from the famous nightspot Titos. A great location for those wanting to be close to the bars and restaurants of Baga, the Wednesday flea market at Anjuna (5kms) and the Saturday bazaar (4kms). A firm favourite with repeat clients.

Accommodation
100 Standard rooms
some are sea facing. The hotel consists of 23 blocks surrounded by gardens. All rooms are air-conditioned, simply furnished and have a small separate sitting room. Room facilities: ceiling fan. En-suite bathroom with shower. Balcony. Satellite television. Telephone . Twin or double beds.

Services and Facilities
Multi-cuisine restaurant and bar overlooking the pool. Swimming pool. Safety deposit facilities. Pool table. Table tennis.

Sounds good doesn't it?

Plus according to our Travelpack accommodation voucher we were 1 x Double Rook - Superior Half Board. Which indicated to us that we would be getting one of the best rooms the Colonia Santa Maria Hotel had.

The reality when we arrived was that the hotel did not rank much more than * (one star!) if that.

The first room we were given was smelly, with mould on the walls and generally dirty. It still had some decorators rubbish in the entranceway. The bathroom window had a pane of glass missing and there was an horrendous gap under the balcony door that more than the mosquitoes could have got through. I immediately went back down to reception and after informing them of the problems, asked to be moved. This they did without question apologising for the inconvenience. I didn't have time to take any photos.

The second room we were given was no better: See the series of almost 40 photos showing the utter filth that the Travelpack manager that we tried to speak to, expected us to remain in for the rest of our holiday!
